How I Started My Business: From Acting Dreams to Empowering Entrepreneurs

Published on 20 December 2024 at 16:21

For 35 years, I worked hard but never felt like I was following my true purpose. That changed when I pursued my passion for creativity, storytelling, and helping others. Here's how I transitioned from a part-time HR job to creating my own business, empowering entrepreneurs—especially women—to confidently show up on social media.

A Journey of Self-Discovery
As a teenager, I was captivated by films and TV, dreaming of being like the characters I admired. Growing up in a working-class family, acting felt out of reach. In my 20s, I discovered theatre, which ignited my passion for storytelling. But after starting a family, I put my dreams on hold. When my daughter performed on the West End, I realised how much I had buried my own creative desires.

Taking Small Steps Toward My Dreams
Inspired by my daughter, I enrolled in acting classes, secured an agent, and worked on independent films, corporate work, a KFC commercial, and created my own short film, with another actor,  due for release in 2025. However, I knew that I needed more flexibility to pursue my passions and show my children that anything is possible.

The Birth of Nield Visual Media
After coaching with Matt Hall, Business Strategist and founder of Success School, I launched Nield Visual Media. Combining my love for creativity and visual storytelling, I started offering video editing services, specialising in social media reels for busy entrepreneurs. My goal was to make video content enjoyable and impactful, helping others, particularly women, step into the spotlight.

The Struggles and Wins
Building the business has been challenging. To gain exposure, I became a sponsor at live events, which helped me network and learn. Volunteering my services also allowed me to build a portfolio and refine my skills. Slowly, the business has started to gain traction.

What’s Next?
My business is growing, but there’s still much to achieve. I’ve learned that success is the result of consistent effort and staying true to your purpose. I’m excited to continue helping entrepreneurs along the way.

If you’re an entrepreneur hesitant to be on camera, your story matters. It’s never too late to chase your dreams, and that’s the message I want to share. Through Nield Visual Media, I aim to empower people, especially women, to confidently show up and share their authentic selves on social media and beyond.

Let’s take the first step together—whether through a social media reel, personal branding video, or a conversation about your vision. I’m here to help you find your confidence and step into your purpose.
